Established in 1907, Sumner Tennis and Squash Club is one of the few combined racquets clubs in Canterbury and, like Sumner itself, it has a real community feeling. We also have a developing senior tennis section and a strong junior section from which regional and national players have emerged. There are plenty of good tennis and squash opportunites at all levels and ages, but the emphasis is on family fun and providing a place to meet others.
Our club is dedicated to maintaining quality facilities that all members can enjoy. We escaped damage in the first few earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 but, although most facilities are still usable, the June aftershocks did damage some of our courts. We are working through insurance processes to help make our club better than ever. We're very grateful to Fletcher Building who are donating nearly $24,000 from their Canterbury Fund to help us replace damaged fencing.
