Junior Tennis

Every year a large number of teams participate in junior tennis coaching and interclub with Sumner.

Our coaches offer excellent programmes designed to get children to a high standard of social and competitive tennis.

We have a history of producing winning junior teams and some of our juniors have gone on to play for Canterbury and New Zealand teams.

Coaching and Teams

The club offers pre-interclub group coaching on Saturday mornings. Children are put into small coaching groups with others of a similar age and ability and coached through the basic tennis skills required to play interclub tennis.

Once these skills are mastered, children are put in teams and entered in the Canterbury Tennis junior interclub summer competition which runs from October to March. Team selections are made by the coaches and the junior administrator and team members are expected to be available for all team coaching sessions.

Extra private coaching sessions are available if required.

We value parent support in managing teams with the focus on a fair game played by the on-court team.
